Care for a RAZR? Go for the X factor

The V3x has the most brains and brawn among its RAZR siblings. Although it's heavier and thicker compared to its predecessors, at least it doesn't feel as though it'll break into pieces when you put it in your back pocket. With a shell that's more macho than the RAZR-standard fasyon, it still looks good with extra pogi points thanks to its improved text-friendly comfy keypad.

Once opened, this 3G clamshell reveals an über-brilliant large TFT display. Even the little arcs of the fonts are visible while typing. All this detail means using the main display as a viewfinder can be misleading. Granted, capturing still shots with its 2-megapixel camera yields satisfactory photos – in fact, it produces rich indoor photos even without its photo-light. With video, though, playback of clips reveals that they aren't as clear as they seemed while shooting them.

The unit's loudspeaker is located at the back, which makes MP3 playback muffled when the phone is on a table or even when you're using the phone, as the speaker tends to be covered by your palm. But this isn't such a nag considering that this speaker's output isn't so pleasing to the ear anyway. When it comes to sound during phone calls, though, the prototype we reviewed gave off a tiny shrill sound that only the person at the other end of the line could hear. It got even less pleasing whenever we overstretched the clamshell's hinge while conversing, as apparently, doing so let out a loud creaking sound.

What text-happy Pinoys will dislike the most is the V3x's automatic switching to MMS whenever you type a long SMS message. While most phones send a lengthy lovers' quarrel by parts, the V3x sends it in one go as a more expensive MMS message. The unit doesn't even warn you at which point you have crossed its MMS criterion.

All in all, with its sturdy housing, striking looks, amazing display, good camera, and not to mention its 3G capabilities, the Motorola RAZR V3x is the best RAZR out in the market today. Chrissy D. Icamina
