MOBILE PHONE
Nokia flexes its muscles
Three megapixels and then some...

Yes, this is Nokia's heaviest-hitting handset to date and it shows. For starters, its LCD boasts a 262k-color depth, and 352x416 pixel resolution, making navigation a visual treat. The screen also does justice to the photos taken. Camera performance is pretty consistent in well-lit conditions. Though the N80 is equipped with a flash and a slew of photo options, there was quite a bit of image noise in darker environs. Video capture is limited only by the size of the memory card, and quality is acceptable, as far as mobile phones go. You can also use the front-mounted camera for both photos and video with a consequent drop in quality. Best to use the front cam for 3G video calls.

The N80 handles MP3 and AAC audio formats with aplomb. It even comes with QuickOffice. But the real kicker in the N80 is its integrated Wi-Fi and the MiniMap browser. The MiniMap browser gets around the problem of small screens by bringing up a "picture in a picture" of the whole website as you scroll along. Best of all, the browser has full web capabilities - no condensed or simplified versions of sites required.

The "mobile computer", as Nokia calls it, is quite comfortable to use, despite the lack of a proper lip for your thumb to push on, ala 6270. Trivial concerns really. It's amazing how all this mobile muscle is packed into a compact, albeit not-so-slender slider. If they had only equipped it with an autofocus, then we wouldn't have any beef with the N80 at all.

NOKIA N80

Macro maniac
The N80 has a switch by the main camera's lens that activates macro mode. It does alright, but we would've preferred an auto-focus function instead.
