BlackJack got better
Nokia had a chance to redeem the E61 with the excellent E61i, and Samsung seems to be following suit with the SGH i600, the follow-up to the i320, also known as the BlackJack. There's quite a bit of déjà vu the first time we got our mitts on the i600. It closely follows the i320's exterior, which isn't a bad thing since the i600's shell looks like it was inspired by a Lamborgini Murcielago. It's turbocharged with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, and 3G.
It's one of the slimmest smart phones with killer looks to boot. Samsung has stuck with the non-touchscreen version of Windows Mobile 5.0. By adding a clickwheel and a custom-developed user interface overlay, its major features are literally under your thumb. In addition to the standard Windows Mobile screen, Samsung's graphically impressive Card Wheel interface stacks important apps into sequential tabs, some of which can be customized.
The i600 takes its Ultra Messaging badge seriously with its wide array of options for voice, text, and email communication. The Tic Tac-shaped QWERTY keyboard is easy to use, too.
Samsung's smart phone has mastered multimedia with nearly instantaneous access to music and photo files. Slap in a 2GB microSD in the easily accessible slot and you've got a stylish digital media player too.
