MOBILE PHONE
Sony Ericsson K660i

With its K-series designation, you may think that the K660i is part of the Cyber-shot family of imaging phones. You'd be thinking wrong, though, boyo.

Just like the K600 and K608 before it, this mobile phone is a connectivity device. In the same way its predecessors gave 3G and video calling to the masses, the K660i hopes to do the same – this time with speedier HSDPA downloads and a new browsing experience.

That faster data connection complements the K660i's ability to browse websites in landscape mode (since most websites are wider than they are taller) and support for RSS feeds. Coupled with conveniently placed web shortcut keys, surfing becomes intuitive despite the relatively small screen. With that in mind, that ‘page zoom' shortcut key makes perfect sense now. Before you go surfing at speeds beyond 3G, keep in mind one caveat: HSDPA isn't as widespread as, say, 3G or EDGE. Thankfully the K660i can downshift to those bandwidths too.

The rest of the K660i is typical Sony Ericsson fare. The mobile is put together well and the round keys are pleasant to use. In a nod towards the faster HSDPA connection, the K660i's new interface boasts some speed and multitasking tweaks over the previous generation of phones as well. The two-megapixel snapper does a satisfactory job, though you may find its inability to zoom in on the action a bit frustrating.

Yes the K660i has got HSDPA, a capable browser and it comes in fancy colors. Other than those features, there's nothing much to make the K660i stand out from the other mobiles out there, unless you fancy mint green, that is.

HSDA explained
Short for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access, it is a third generation mobile telephony communications protocol. The Philippines is one of the first countries in Southeast Asia to have HSDPA.
