An iPod dock plus.
With a quirkydesign that’s straight out of a Philip K. Dick sci-fi thriller, the new Philips AJ300D Docking Entertainment System is an iPod dock slash alarm clock slash FM radio—and a very good one at each of those functions, too.
As a dock, it comes with a remote control and a boxful of adapters for not just most iPod models but also for Philips’ own GoGear music players. It even has an auxiliary-in connection that effectively supports other players as well. And with a built-in mini subwoofer technology called wOOx, it plays well on the bedroom and other small enclosures. However, it sounds tinny anywhere else perhaps due to its compact size and shape.
Although not likely to make the neighbors complain, the AJ300D’s alarm clock function is loud enough to rouse anyone from even the deepest sleep. Two alarms can be set for you and your companion, each with its own on/off button. The FM tuner has pretty good reception as well and there are preset buttons for five of your favorite stations.
All told and given its environment limitations, the AJ300D remains a solid performer on all intended fronts and then some. Edwin P. Sallan
