SENNHEISER PC155  | P7,895 |
Va-va-BOOM!

Comparing the Sennheiser PC155 USB headphones to your ordinary earpieces would be like comparing the Philharmonic Orchestra to your karoling group during Christmas. People would pay more to listen to trained professionals and get their money's worth, unlike the tawads you get.

Most noticeable about this earmuff look-a-like is its bass. Once you turn up the volume your cranium gets a pleasant beating of booming thuds that make you stare blankly at the wall or at the computer screen in awe. The ergonomically designed earpieces maximize the use of surrounding air to create this exceptional bass. Just imagine how gunfire and grenades from Counterstrike would sound like!

Equally impressive is how the PC155 reproduces strings. The theme from Star Wars sounded every bit as good as it did in theaters, or perhaps even a bit better.

What's unique about these Sennheisers is that it doubles as a sound card. It comes with a USB attachment (aside from the normal microphone and earphone jacks) so you can just plug and play away.

USB connectivity. flexible boom microphone. built-in volume control. doubles as a soundcard. Windows 98SE up and Mac OS 9.04 and up.
An excellent piece of audio equipment only to be let down by its high price tag.
The flexible, noise-reducing microphone is also a welcome addition to this already impressive product. The stem is made of rubber, so whenever you accidentally nudge on the mic, it just flips back into position. And if you want to get rid of it altogether, just turn it counter clockwise and it perches vertically and out of your way.

The built-in volume control is also a quaint addition, thus eliminating the need to reach the volume control of the base unit.

But wait, if you're thinking of owning a pair, be prepared to dig deep into your pockets. At almost 8,000 bucks it's definitely something that am ordinary gamer would (or could) buy. And if you're serious with audio, professional headsets from equally respectable manufacturers are readily available at a nearby mall.

The PC155 is great if you have the dough for it. - Joey Tuazon
