Spherical speakers give out a round sound
Although we're notentirely sure if the brand name was inspired by a Radiohead album, Kidigi's Music Dock looks literally like a blast from the past with its Deathstar-aping looks. Still, you have to give Kidigi credit for its brave design. The speaker comes packed with a USB cable, AC charger, and double-ended stereo jack cable.
The dock is made specifically for the Sony Ericsson W800i, although it also works for the K750i. As for the W550i and W900i, their Fast Ports have a flap that interferes with the dock connector. Thankfully, the Kidigi has a standard line-in jack for hooking up to other stereo jack-enabled devices.
Beyond its looks, the speaker set sounds exceptionally good for its size, with sonics that are just a few notches below the sound of early model Altec Lansing inMotions and Creative TravelSounds.
What is perhaps most amazing about the speakers is that they can work in unpowered mode by leeching juice from the phone's batteries. We played close to an hour of music in this mode. The speaker can also be powered two other ways: by USB and by AC adaptor. When plugged into a USB port, the phone can sync with the computer.
The speaker also works as a handsfree unit, but somehow, it was the weakest feature. In our tests, the caller at the other end of the line had trouble figuring out what we were saying. Unlike in regular handsfree headsets, the mic is placed too close to the speakers.
The cool, Jedi training ball good looks do have a downside. The Music Dock requires its own stand to stop rolling off your table. A tiny peg sticks out beneath the speakers and slots into a hole in the weighted stand. God forbid, a wayward blow can knock out the speakers (with your phone on it) from the stand. Ed Geronia

TECH Stereo micro drivers, powered by phone, AC adapter or USB. Digital volume control.
LOVE Powerful sound. Deathstar mini look.
HATE Flimsy stand. Lousy AC adaptor.
WE SAY Despite its size, it sounds great on the go – if you don’t mind lugging around a small plasticky ball.

KIDIGI MUSIC DOCK
Sizing up
It's about as big as a duckpin bowling ball. Just don’t end up rolling it around.
