DIGITAL CAMERA
Big picture, small package
Just the way we like it

When we first picked up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 we were shocked beyond belief that it weighed less than a can of baked beans! And to think that it's a prosumer camera with a snazzy Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens and 12x optical zoom in its compact body.

But the FZ7's "lack of mass" is just the icing on the cake. With a six-megapixel CCD and an impressively clear, scratch-resistant 2.5-inch LCD, the FZ7 delivers pixel-perfect photos without much delay. It's a fast, smooth operator that also boasts two powerful image stabilization settings that will make you forget about fuzzy, blurry pictures - as long as you do your part and not move your hand too much.

As for its other settings, the FZ7 takes into consideration the growing desire of point-and-shoot camera buffs who want to learn the ropes of professional photography. The Lumix FZ7 features control choices such as aperture priority, shutter priority, manual exposure, and a very unique flip or stop motion animation capture mode where you simply connect images to make a video - and multiple scenes modes that include a high sensitivity option.

The high sensitivity mode is definitely an added bonus because an ISO setting of 1600 can greatly help whenever you find yourself in a dark shooting location. However, once you select ISO 1600, be sure to expect lots of noise. Fortunately, the FZ7 allows you to capture moments in TIFF so you can always manipulate and improve your images later on.

The FZ7 is sure to be touted as one of the best digital cameras of the year. Not only does the FZ7 weigh less than your average prosumer camera, it's also packed with various professional features to choose from and experiment with. Rye Fong

HATE The high-sensitivity ISO setting of 1600 produces an unacceptable amount of grain.
